David im sorry to hear about your wife. It runs in our family, my mom had it ,niece with UC as well as me.They are doing some very good work in the netherlands as well as here in Canada on it, one is treating the patient with PRE biotics, food for the good bacteria that should be in the intenstine, once that is done they introduce the good bacteria pro boitics, i have treated myself but could only get the pro with the food, it tookabout 6 pills a day about a month and a half before it started working i was about to give up as i didn,t belive.today i take 6 pills in the moring and am doing very well all natural, if i get sick from something and i have a stomache or any UC related problems i take 6 more , in an hour im feeling great. Docs here don,t really belive me much but im 200lbs again and doing great , that confuses them.Look for pre-biotics or pro boitics with the pre in it and stick to it , two months should let you know if it will help. What works for one with this disease doesn,t always help the other , that,s why we try everything i guess, good luck and god bless your wife.
