Jim, You can believe what you wish, but there are differences in the various tractor hydraulic oils available on the market. For my own part i use oil from Canadian Tire or Walmart. At this point in time it's a convenience thing because I don't have a dealer handy to buy oil from. The only bulk products dealer I have is selling Ultramar products, and I will not use their "fluid" in my tractors again. BT/DT, got the T-Shirt and the repair bills. That particular fluid does not meet the Ford NH 134D specs, although it is sold as being a universal tractor fluid. Both the Walmart and Canadian Tire TDH's meet that spec. So far as that goes, I still don't consider these oils to be fully equivelant to Esso Hydraul 56 or Nh lubricants. These oils do not cost half as much for no reason. I suspect, and have been told, that the additive packages are not as good... the way it was put to me is that they deplete quicker, so the oil doesn't have the service life of the more expensive oils. That doesn't concern me much as I don't push the service life anyway. I change it, or it changes itself.... For anyone that's interested to look, you can go to the FL Viscosity website and do some research on oils. A glaring example exists there in that FLViscosity offers 2 distinct product lines of hydraulic oils for both IH derived equipment, and another for Ford/Fiat heritage equipment. The HY-Tran and the NH Ambra 134 have different viscosities, along with some other differing properties. The 134 blend is a lot more common as it meets most Deere, Kubota, Massey and several other specs, but it does not meet the HY-Tran specs. Go look at that information and then tell me that all oils are the same. There are examples where some are the same, as Ford/NH, for many years sourced their oil from Esso in Canada, and the 134D was certainly the same as Hydraul 56... but the detailed spec sheets will bear that out. The cost spread wasn't great between them either. There's a reason why some oils are so much cheaper. It's got less of something in it. Although, to me, I will take a chance on some of these things if it performs correctly. Rod

Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
