FWIW: I too had lower back problems that really started killing me just over a year ago. Tried chiropractic treatments for 4 months. Tried special exercises recommended by doctor. Tried epidural steroid injections. Finally by May I could no longer walk. Affliction was called (acquired spondilothesis) along with several other problems in lower back. Found an excellent neurosurgeon here in Lake Charles,Louisiana. Finally had surgery on 19 June. Am now walking 4 mile a day and depending upon whether or not fusion of L4,L5,,and S1 vertabrae has completed,I will be released for work by the end of next week. Doctor had told me at outset that healing process would be 6 to 18 months and at my age,(59) probably more toward the 12 to 18 month time frame. I didn't realize just how much I had been in pain for the past 10 or more years until about a month after the surgery when the pain from the 7 hour surgery started clearing up. I would opt for surgery again and would recommend it for anyone when they get as bad as I was and nothing else helps. Also, I would recommend a neurosurgeon rather that an orthopedic surgeon. As others have said, there is no magic cure all, but I feel I have found the closest substitute. Biggest problem I've had is listening to doctor and not doing anything to "blow out" the surgery before it is completely healed. HTH God Bless. Bob Da. (La)

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
