I purchase 19HP commercial SCAG with 48" deck about 3 years ago. Mow about four acres of "lawn" on steep rocky hillside, covered in young trees. We try to mow only three to five times a season. Set deck at 5 1/2 inches, never rake. Very thick blue grass on most of it. Some is old hay field (alfalfa, quack grass etc.). WE love it! I trim with string trimmer only once per season. I noticed the junipers next the house never got done this year! Opps.... I should sell my push trim mower. Haven't used it since I got the zero turn mower. I abuse my SCAG. Been know to use it to cut acres pasture weeds down after sheep have grazed. Don't recommend using it to cut corn stubbly but done that too.... Currently I am using it to build a new hay field organically (no spraying ). Cutting 2 acres of thistle and giant ragweed problem on new 2006 field of orchard grass and timothy. After one more year of cutting down the ragweed and thistle (hopefully as three hay crops in 2007), I will frost seed with white clover. Should make some excellent horse hay and possible winter grazing next to the barn. It works so much better than the rough cut mower behind the tractor. Doesn't just knock it down.
