this happened to a neighbor of mine, retired farmer lived by himself. guy shows up in a van, wearin a hardhat, dressed like a construction guy. knocks on the door, tells my neighbor he works for a construction company and they need to do some road work and are bringing in a machine on a lowboy and wants to know if they can park it on his property so it doesnt get vandalized. they go for a walk around the barn, he is going to show him where they can park the machine, in the meantime, couple guys are hiding in the van, they jump out, and ransack the house, they talk back and forth in spanish on two way radios. hardhat guy keeps my neighbor occupied, talking about machinery, farming ect for a bout half an hour, gives the other hoodlums time to load up then they call him back on the radio and they leave, he walks back in the house, place is a mess, phone is yanked out of the wall. goes to the other neighbor to call the sherriff. cops show up, say they seen this happen quite a bit. just wanted to pass this along to everyone. be careful with strangers showing up.
