Having been through this with my Cat 977, I can tell you that it's worth spending the money to have a guy come weld and line bore. Yes, its a little expensive, but call around, some guys are a lot cheaper than others. My estimates ranged from $1,200 to $550. After jacking around trying to jury rig and find a cheaper way, I finally spent the $ and am very happy I did. It's so expensive because the rotary welding heads are in the $25K area. It's done, and done right, and now I make sure I grease after every day of use. If you'r in the MD, PA, DE area, e-mail and I'll give you the name of the guy I used.
