$1000 sounds reasonable, but I wouldn't expect an awful lot more unless it is super-clean. You mentioned how expensive motor homes are of that vintage. They are usually much cheaper with private sales - at least here in the northeast. Dealers are always rediculously high. If something is bringing $3000 private sale, the RV dealers will be asking $7000 for the same thing. I often see Class Cs with carbureted 350s in the $3500 - $5500 price range and they just about always have some sort of water damage - current or repaired - probably from winter snow on the roofs. I used to live in Northern Vermont (Albany and Barton - Northeast Kingdom)and the weather was just as crappy there as here in central New York. And - about scrapping. Some of the scrapyards in my area will not take RVs. There's too much crap to strip off (mostly wood, sometimes fiberglass). I tried to scrap a 1979 Class A Winnebago (with 40K miles on it) and the yard wouldn't take it unless I removed all the wood, aluminum and appliances. Some of the features in an 86 ought to be worth something. A good electronic-igntion LP furnace will bring $150-$250 on Ebay. A good three-way fridge will bring more. And, you can sell the water-pump, power-supply/converter, awning and probably a few other components. In regard to the mechanical parts ?? I don't see carbed flat-cammed 350s bringing much more than $50-$100 regardless of miles - they're all over the place. Same with a TH400 non-overdrive trans. I'm not trying to be a wet-blanket here - but this is based on what I've experienced. There's no shortage of motor-homes with low-miles - they usually spend most of their lives sitting parked, rotting out and then getting sold for next to nothing - or given away if you're willing to remove. I see late 70s, early 80s motorhomes at least once a month - advertised free if towed away - usually the big Class As. Sounds to me like fixing it is good advice.
