Back in the late fifties and early sixties I worked at a Ford transmission plant and we would wash up for lunch using triclorethylene. Didn't have any idea it was harmful to the liver back then. Found out later that it was absorbed through the skin and causes liver cancer. They got rid of the hot dip triclor tanks and started using the Typhoon wash machines instead. They also issued rubber gloves for anyone comming into contact with transmission oil.
