I dunno about that particular axle as I haven't looked at the newer Deere's in some time up close. However, the last time I did look close, Deere was using ZF axles. Don't really matter as all planetary fronts are much the same anyway; it's just a matter of scaling up or down for size. Generally, the most technical tool you'll need is a dial indicator for checking the king pin play and bearing preload on the king pins, and possibly the shaft end play. The front hubs that I've seen destruct are generally the result of a bolt dropping off in the carrier and lodging in the planetary's teeth, locking the assembly, and boom.... locked wheel and broken ring and planet gears, and sometimes the carrier. Otherwise bearing failures from lack of oil are the next concern. 90% of the repairs there are basically visual. Check for cracked, broken or worn teeth in the sun, planet, and ring gears, excessive wear on the gears or bearings, and replace as necessary. Check the input shaft bushings for wear, particulairly if the shaft seal has been leaking. Change all seals and reassemble. Do get the correct torque specs, particulairly for the ring gear reatiner bolts, as they are CRITICAL. It would be well worth one's time to review the particular procedure in the service manual. It can save a lot of greif. But I doubt there are any special tools.... at most a dial and spring gauge. HTH. Rod
