For your recommended use, I would say the bigger ther better.
Ramsey and Warn are good winches, but I have heard that the larger HF winches do OK, no firsthand exp on the big ones. I paid $50f for a 2,000 lb winch and have been well satisfied with it. The control is a bit cheaply made, but whatdaya expect for $50 :)
btw a 2,000 lb one is not nearly big enough for you.
