Jon, We bought a '95 C2500 suburban with the 6.5 and for the first 80,000 miles or so, we went through probably four injection pumps and a couple lift pumps too--all under warranty. At about 120,000 miles we had the injection pump replaced (under extended warranty) and its been running fine since. Right now we're at close to 250,000 miles and it starts up and runs like the day we bought it. I believe whatever Stanadyne came up with on the pump design they did something right. It's likely that the engine you're considering has had one or more pump replacements in its lifetime so maybe you'll be OK. If you get it, obviously do an oil & filter change (Rotella 15/40) and change the transmission fluid & filter and also the fuel filter. Under no circumstances should you use additive except that supplied (and approved) by Stanadyne. The emulsified water that some additives "create" will damage the pump. Also, the oil filter sending unit is another slight aggravation--this also controls voltage to the lift pump and it burns up frequently--this will starve the fuel system under heavy load. The engine will run OK on a near full tank but best to R & R the switch ASAP. I keep a spare onboard and have changed more than one on the side of the road. Bottom line--if the engine runs good, you should be OK for awhile. Before buying, take the truck on a test run and get up to 45 and accelerate heavy for a minute or so--see if any SES lights come on.
