Hydraulic Woes

Boy, I'll tell ya. If there is a "wacko" problem lurking about, it is going to happen to me. Every darned time. Fought this goofy thing 'til I was 'bout at the end of my rope. Checked and re-checked, routed and re-routed. Changed ends and couplers until the dogs started howling, oil strung all over everything including me and I still couldn't make 'er work. Finally went back to the electrical end of things and started testing. Turns out that the micro switch that runs that splitter was southbound. Darned thing worked fine until I mounted it to the stick, but I guess the torsion and/or stress on the little switch when cinched down made it loose contact on the one side. Anyhoo, my friend George has a new one on the way and then maybe we can get back to cow duty. :>( Allan

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
