OK, I"m gonna chime in here. First of all I dont know where you live but I find it very hard to believe that a county sherrif is handing out CCP"s to an 18 year old. If they are, Good for you. Now, I have had one for years and as life would have it is was needed for one reason or another. Next, just think about the outcome of you carrin that gun when your out and about. If you think you need to carry that gun just for fun forget about it. If you pull a gun on another humanbeing you better be prepaired to pull that trigger and put them in the ground. Not an easy thing to do. Just like hunting with a rifle or a shot gun, Responcibity and common sence is key. Now, as for taking it to the local law inforcement I wouldnt do it. If it has been in your Grandpas possesion for that long it couldnt have been used in a crime. Unless he used it. Regardless, the police would have a hard time tracking it down unless someone reported it stolen and gave them the #"s.
