My jobs (full and part-time) are in the healthcare industry. Through them I deal with several V.A. facilities. Here's my take: I don't like the V.A.'s move toward consolidation. Even basic care that should be available in about any healthcare facility often requires a several hour drive, at least in my area. V.A. sometimes lacks "cutting edge" technology. They can take care of stuff that's not too complicated, but often contract out more technical stuff-which is okay-but often requires more travel and hassle for Vets and their families. I've always been impressed by how the staff is usually upbeat in spite of all the government B.S. they have to put up with-and I do believe it is more than just the average healthcare facility staff has to tolerate.
