I bought a running gear at a farm sale and built a hayrack (that's what we calls 'em here in Central America...Nebraska that is). If you're gonna use it on rough or sloping ground, by all means, bolt the stringers to the bolsters! Works great if you're ridin' the rack and catchin' off the baler, but a bitch if you have to pick up off the ground later. But you might consider a flatbed trailer. My neighbor square bales a 5 acres patch over virgin prairie grass and sells to me every year for my horses. He calls and says its on the ground, come and get it. I have found that mounting a ball on the drawbar and pulling my lowslung flatbed around the field is a dang sight easier to load. Besides, a flatbed has a multitude of other uses if it's sized right.
