first thing to be sure of is that the auctioneer has the papers of ownership from the person selling the tank. these have to be transfered over to the buyer of the tank at the auction! without that slip it is illegal to fill the tank,,this is a federal law,,under homeland securety. secondly if it is a " A.S.M.E. tank" inspection and requalification is every 12 years. normally you will find an "E-" followed by the year it was inspected stamped on the collar or the om plate. if it is a "D.O.T. tank" no requalification is needed BUT it is in your best interest to have it inspected by a qualified person. look at the valves and the pressure release vavle---if it does not have a rubber cap on it---it must be replaced with a new one of the same size and pressure and have a rubber cap on it to prevent dust etc. from going down into it and causing it not to operate if ever needed,,other wise the vessel can rupture from pressure build up that a non operating release valve cannot dump, and when this happens 99 out of a 100 times death is one side effect. so be careful. check that hose if it has just even slight crackes showing on the rubber surface any where,,mainly at the end fittings, will need to be replaced by a new " LP " hose. ( 25 footer is roughly $80.oo } be careful and cautious, look the tank over good for rust especially on the bottom.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
