It's the ratio of the gear boxes. The finish mower is built for a higher blade rpm than the bushhog. That is part of the clean cut of a finish mower. Our finish mowers are set to turn the blades 2500-3000 rpms on a 540 rpm pto. That's part of the problem using a finish mower for utility work. When your in grass that's too big or hit an object like a limb or rock something has to give. If your running with deck up and break a blade or sling one off it is like a missile, it will do and extreme amount of damage. We had a spindle to break and the blade went completely through a full size Ford pickup truck, and dented the door on the other side when it hit it. Luckily no one was in the truck. Check with the dealer to see what ratio his finish mower is and what the blade speed is. Ours all have 3 blades per 5 ft deck, check the shaft diamater, it should be well over 1". If you adjust the rear wheel and the 3 point right on the bushog it will mow almost down to ground level, you want to adjust it so the side runners barely clear the ground.
