I never have and never will defend Japanese supremacy in automobiles and agricultural equipment imported into this country. Unfortunately, I must agree with the above because most, if not all, major manufacturers import small tractors from foreign countries due to their cheap manufacturing processes. And, in most cases, they perform quite satisfactorily in their intended roles. NH tractors come over from Japan and have been for many years. Deeres come from Japan and Germany (both the Axis powers in WWII-I'm not even 25 yet and I'll never forgive Pearl Harbor and the Holocaust). AGCOs come from Japan, France, etc. It is too bad that the economy has forced our manufacturers to go outside the borders for these products. One of the last companies to try to make a go of selling smaller domestically produced tractors was White Farm Equipment in 1987, when the company introduced the American series models 60 and 80. These have to be considered among the finest models ever produced in this horsepower range. Versatile, comfortable, and extremely rugged, they simply could not compete with the growing numbers of imported "cheap" 60 hp and related tractors coming in from overseas. These models should have been a great success, enough to bring White out of the terrible 1980s without being purchased by AGCO. Now, we are left with no small tractors built over here. Oh yeah, and the same goes for cars and trucks too. Despite the increasing alliances between domestic and Japanese automakers in model production, the U.S. still builds the finest cars in the world.
