Nearly anything with a 3-point and PTO will handle the mowing. Same for the private road (unless it's really long, a back blade will probably be enough). The part that's the problem is the garden. If you're planning to use a 3-point PTO rototiller, you'll need a tractor that can travel at a low ground speed with the PTO at rated RPM. (This eliminates the N's -- much as I like them.) If this is your plan, live PTO would be a *good* thing too. It also sounds like you really need someone knowledgeable to go with you. I'd fight down the pride and talk to your father-in-law. Just remember, there must be things you know about that he doesn't!
