MrG, sounds like a similar booger of a time I had with a Ford tie rod. I broke a fork drift, and a cheapy puller. Ended up soaking in Kroil, then buying a decent puller that was just the right size (Sears, from Craftsman.com, their smallest puller. They didn't stock them in their store here in Austin.) Even then, I had to hit the tie rod with a hammer while the puller was extremely tight. Next step would have been heat, as mentioned below. You can get Kroil from Kanolabs.com. Great stuff for penetrating oil.
