Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine until the points are closed. Turn on the ignition switch and open the points and then let them close and see if the points are sparking. If you have spark, you have either a bad coil or the rotor button is shorted to the distributor shaft or the coil wire is defective. If there is no spark at the points during the opening/closing test, the condenser is shorted or the points are oxidized across their face. This takes into consideration that the wire coming from the switch to the coil has power on in when the switch is on.
