There IS actually a theory to this, and that's the fact that snow sticks to snow pretty good. The notion is that 'fine treaded' tires will pack up with snow that sticks in the treads. That snow will give you traction against the snow base underneath the tire. I dunno about your snow, but the stuff we get around here (Paciic Northwest) likes chains. Depending on your situation, you may want to try it and see what happens. The part about no differential lock may give you problems though. bbott
