Hi,
I have a MF 65 Diesel and the starter’s solenoid has a problem. The copper on the bolt is worn enough (see attached photo) that it doesn’t engage the copper ring to complete the circuit to start the starter motor. Since it will take at least 10 days for my local dealer to get a new one in I was wondering if I could fix it.
Here’s what I propose to do: I’ll face off the copper on the bolt face in a lathe so that it is flat. I’ll then solder a new piece on and face it down to the original size. I was thinking of using a penny but now I’m not too sure they are copper so I’ll get some flat copper stock. Does this sound like a plan to you experts? By the way, is it possible to buy just the bolt?
Anyway…what say ye…
Thanks
