The backside of the lug is square (kind of like a plow bolt) so it won't turn when the battery cable is attached. You're right though... in a pinch your suggestion would work just fine! I ended up facing the front off and silver soldering a piece of copper on (.060" thickness). The total time to do it was about 8 minutes. Looking at it, I think it will last a long time.

Someone told me I can get replacement lugs for it for around $1.25 apiece. I think I'll see if that is the case and keep a couple on hand. This should completely eliminate any chance of me have this problem again and my heirs will have some copper lugs to throw away. :wink:
