I get nervous when I hear that an engine needs an overhaul because it runs rough. Had a friend that put a lot of money and down time into a big ford engine to find that it still ran rough. Do your homwork here. A good oil pressure test will give you a good idea about the condition of your bearings. If you are not sure of your gauge borrow or buy a good one. A compression test will tell you the condition of your valves and rings (that smoke could be coming around your valves/seals. On your compression test the first stroke is the most important so watch closely (good article in tune up ans spec. section of YT) If you need that overhaul yu may be able to do it while leaving the block in tractor. ((NOSPLITTING)) GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES.
