First, keeping a charge in the battery has nothing to do with the coil or condenser. Could be one (or more) of three things. 1) you have a discharge from the battery when there should be none (everything supposedly off); 2) the battery has an internal discharge of it's own; 3) it is not being charged on the tractor. You can check the first by removing the battery lead and checking with a testmeter or bulb between the battery terminal and the removed lead. If it is the second, the new battery will lose charge while disconnected. You should see a large charging current indicated on you ammeter after the tractor is jump started from another battery 'cos it's own has become discharged. If neither of these (and the generator is OK) and there is no charge the fault will lie between the alternator and ammeter. Like you say, not enough information for a diagnosis, but a few rudimentary checks should easily isolate the problem to a short, bad battery, bad VCR or open circuit in the charging circuit. RAB
