Just went through about the same thing. I'm a newcomer to Ning, but when I replaced the rotor, a small clip came with it. It fits on the distributor shaft. And here's the catch: The clip on it point up, not down as the IT manual shows. The tractor will start and run without it, but very poorly. You may be way ahead of me on this deal, but it's a thingie that applies only to 8Ns with side-mount distrubutor. Good luck on your problem. -Gale-
