Don't just assume that because it is a Kubota that is will be what's known as a "Grey Market" tractor. Grey Market tractors are common in the US now, but absolutely NOT limited to Kubota! There are Satoh, Yanmar, and many others. Grey Market tractors are tractors that were NOT manufacutured for sale in the US. They were designed and made for other countries, which may have different requirements, safety standards, even different equipment specifications. Common grey tractors are designed for the Rice industry. They will have the large cleated "rice tread" tires, unually no ROPS, no PTO shields, and non-standard PTO speeds, and possibly a PTO that turns in the opposite direction that ones designed for the US. Some grey market machines are simply lower cost versions of their US counterparts, lacking the safety equipment. Others are not. Bottom line, Kubota is, in my opinion, the BEST of the Japanese imports, including the Yanmars that are painted green & called Deere's. Less tractor that the orange ones for 1/3 more money. The only thing to look out for, besides buying a grey market tractor, is that parts are somewhat expensive for older Kubotas. They are available, however. I have a 79 model, 25 hp machine & I love it for smaller tasks, such as my small veggie garden, that my 4000 Ford is too big for. The facts about Grey Market tractors are here: http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/kb13/ans_grey.htm Good Luck! Tommy D.
