Have used Mobil 1 since the mid 70's, when the advertised 25,000 mile changes on the can. I was used to changing conventional oil at 3000 miles and did not trust running oil that long. I had it anylized at 3-6 9-12,000 miles and the report said it was good for much more. I decided that once per year oil / filter change was about right for me and have done that ever since. Last month I replaced lifter cover gaskets on my 80 gmc 292 with 270,000 short trip farm dirt miles on it. Inside of the engine is very clean, not even the bit of varnish on the lifters that makes removing them difficult. I would not worry about synthetic oil causing seal or gasket leaks, mine don't leak. There is nothing about synthetic oil that will "clean" an engine. It is the additive package that keeps an engine clean, and the additives in Mobil 1 are very much like those in premium mineral oil.
Here is some correct info about synthetic oil from the makers of Mobil 1.
