Check the fuel pressure regulator. Better yet, just replace it. My '86 got hard to start (woudn't start) and after destroying a couple starters and hydraulic locking the engine to the point of doing piston and ring damage it was found that the regulator diaphragm had split and was filling the engine through the vacuum lines. That particular truck (302 V-8) the first year fuel injected had no secondary fuel filter so the pump could keep the injector rail pressure up while delivering all the excess fuel to the vacuum lines. Cost me a truck.
