Local school in my town just sold a 1995 Bluebird 64 passenger bus on sealed bid. I went down and looked it over - it had a 5.9 Cummins with the good in-line injection pump and an Allison trans. Only 100K miles on it. The bus had a damaged roof from a tree falling on it. I bid $1000 and did not get it. I later heard it sold for over $3000 - so the engine did not go cheap.
I later looked at a few other school busses and noticed many had 5.9 International engines instead of the 5.9 Cummins - so you can't assume a bus advertised with a 5.9 diesel is a Cummins. The 5.9 IH engine is also turbocharged and intercooled - but I don't know much about the engine series otherwise - except they sell a lot cheaper.
