I started off with an Oliver Super 77 Diesel with a NF and bought a pull behind bush hog to mow off my farm I had just bought. We aren't too flat around my parts and my front field is sloped on three sides. It was the first time I was to mow it and wanted to get as much mowed off as I could. I was running along the slope dodge'n the cedars when I came across a place where they had plowed into a small bank leaving a ledge. As I went along in the tall grass and weeds, my nose gear passed just down hill of the ledge but the rear wheel started to climb the bank. As the tractor began to list, the clutch pedal was getting farther and farther away. I was leaning over the right fender with all I had and was ready to go when the uphill wheel started to get light and spin. I knew it was all over and was praying fervently when it started to creep back down the other side of the bank. I continued to mow that day, and it was several hours before I had a chance to change my underwear. The next day, I went out and bought a wide front end for the tractor.
Several lessons are to be had with this story. One is to walk unfamiliar ground before getting into a fix and another is the $500 I paid for the wide front end was the cheapest life insurance policy I ever bought.
