You might contact Maytag directly. Sometimes we run into a thing such as their is a problem, the factory knows it is a problem, they will fix the problem, but it is a spotty problem, so there is no bulletins issued. Won't hurt to call and talk to the factory, sometimes you, as an end user can get more out of them than we, as a service center can get. I am in the lawn and garden business, and that happens here at times, do not know about appliances, but it don't hurt to call. Just keep your cool, you can get a lot farther. you do need to get the repair estimate and ask them if this is a common thing to have to replace/repair in 3 years and then ask what the average life of this unit is under normal use. Sometimes you can get them to cover parts and you pay labor as a last resort type of thing to offer to them. Expecially if it is not a vendor item and they make it their self.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
