I don't think it takes a lot of knowledge but there are a few tricks to it from what I have heard. You have to take the nut off the pump shaft through a cover and when you get the nut off you have to make sure the shaft keyway is facing upward so the key won't fall off when you pull the pump out. There is a bracket that is kind of hard to get to on the pump. Then I think you just unbolt and unplug the pump connections and remove it and just put the new one back in it's place and reconnect everything. From what I hear it is usually the lift pump that goes out and that takes the VP44 out because of lack of lubrication. My brother's went out and his truck would still run but it would only roll start.
