It"s always difficult, when using averages like the Iowa Univ, to tell how well it applies to particular local areas. At 9k per acre, an acre would seem to be much closer to the value assigned to the 81 peak (in purchasing power, if the acre was sold for cash). On the other hand, if good land brings 9k, then middling or poorer land would drag down the average. It"s all too easy to think "Wow! I got this place for $10K 10-20 yrs ago, and now it"s worth $50K!! I really hit it big!!---The true valuation, and whether you"re better off financially, is what the 50K dollars would buy today in relation to what the 10K dollars would"ve bought at the time of purchase, and there"re so many variables that it"s only an approximation at best.
