That sounds like the night I learned 4 wheel drives arent unstoppable. 1/4 inch of glare ice on the roads, I was 17 and just had to get to "The Back 40", it was a dance hall/bar in Santiago MN, and that is where the "babes" all were on a friday night. As my buddies and I were cruising south, listening to Def Leppard and talking smart about how great the truck handles on the ice, we came up behind a Bonneville that was driving half on the tar/ice and half on the shoulder/ gravel and doing about 20 mph. Some one said pass the ol fart, so I did. When I turned the wheel right to get back in the proper side of the road, the truck started rotating, we did (2) 360's going down the road, about 200', hit the ditch sideways( this was early march and the ditches were deep snow) and ended up about 20 feet off the road with the frame of the truck resting on the snow, wasnt going any where. The ol Bonneville pulled up and stopped, and honked the horn. It was an older gent, bout 70 and his wife. Told us to get in and they'll bring us to the the establishment. We were very grateful and felt like what we were-"Donkeys". His Mrs said the old fello asked her while we were beside them if they should stop "WHEN" we hit the ditch, not if, when, glad they did. So us kids in a big 4x4 didnt make it, but an older couple in a 2 wheel drive Bonneville did. Learned my lesson that night for life, lost a bumper and the exhaust the next morning yanking the old dodge out of that ditch the day. Also ended up that the "babes" all stayed home that night anyway.
