The OBDII stuff is the easiest to trouble shoot. Just plug in the code reader. And double check with an multimeter. The mileage, ride and reliability of the newer stuff makes the 1989 as waste of time and $$$. My scan tool incluides a programmer and it was less than $300.00. The old stuff without a feedback loop to control the airfuel mixture. And being without a lockup overdrive transmission. They are just wasting fuel. I"m amazed at the number of people who know little about electricity and are terrified by it.
