No, it's not always that way. This is a consignment auction and there are people bringing stuff in from all over. I've lived here 30 years and been to many of Jim's auctions - his own at his own yard and also the ones he does off-site for hire. Sometimes stuff goes cheap, but not often. Jim et. al. don't buy everything back.
Last year's auction I went over because there was a 32 hoe off the back of a Case 580CK that I needed (I still do). I asked Jim if I could leave an absentee bid and he said no. I left and didn't come back to bid on it. The next week I drove back over to get some parts out of his salvage yard. I came across a guy loading the Case hoe onto his trailer. He had gone to the auction, only two people bid on the hoe, and he bought it for $500.
