Well we will see as myself i have been through two truck strikes . Back in the 70's , and the one back in the 80's . AS i was and owner operator . DID it do any good ????? First off ya can never get EVERYBODY on board and there is never a common goal . Back in the 80's there were the ones that wanted the deregulation well they got that as everybody wanted to have there little company and get the whole pice of the pie , They wanted wanted lower fuel prices , they wanted one licsence plate one gross weight, they wanted higher speed limits . Then the fed's say ok here ya go . SO now everybody can do there owne thing. What happens everybody cuts rates and along come the big freight co. that cut deals with the truck and trailer co. for cheaper trucks and trailer make big deals with the fuel co.s and tire co.and buy for way over half of what pour Joe Blow is paying . They get there CDL through and this get the pour old TRUCK driver off the road because he can not pass the written test , was he a bad truck driver NO he was the guy that was a darn good driver that learned through the old school of hard knocks never made it thru the 9th grade but one thing he was good at was his job. He was the old school driver that would stop and give ya hand or that would give ya his last dollar so you could get a burger . Now is this thing going to work NOT IN A HEART BEAT as i set here typen this i just saw one of the local coal haulers go past on his way to get fuel and a Pumpkin truck and JB Hunt go past along with UPS semi and there is a garbage truck picking up a couple house past me and there goes another freight hauler headed for one of the shops . Just because a hand full say that we are going to have a strike there are fifteen other co. out there that are just loven the fruitelss efforts of the few as they will get and extra couple loads. The problem today is plain old GREED and the gov. knows this as ya could not get two people to stand together and agree on if the sun was shinning in the same spot at the same time . If ya want to get them to take notice the , First ya got to shut off the fuel supply , next the flow of food, and the biggie shut off the BEER SHIPMENTS . In Todays trucking ind. ya are driving more payen more and getting less . Myself i made more money BEFORE dereg. working thru someone else's wrights and before the NEW breed of freight haulers came along. Now today ya look at a used truck at the miles that are racked up on them ya start looken for the refueling port built into the roof . For you people that have never parked your donkey in the command center of a large car and put a 1000 miles under your belt in one day and yes i know you can't do that it is illegal but it is done everyday . And at times forced on the driver by the company . We have done this all to ourselfs as we will not stick together because Joe Blow may make ten cents more then you did . .
