I was just reading yesterday that in the corn belt, I think they primarily were referring to Iowa and Illinois, they said that every day you wait to plant after May 15th will cost you a bushel per acre in yield.
On my hay crop, I usually plant with the full moon in April. That's next week. My fields are mud and will be for awhile. I am looking at the full moon in May now which will be 17-18 May per the Farmer's almanac. By planting later I may be able to harvest the first cutting and get it cured this time. Guess the neighbors will just have to listen to my tractor on Sunday morning, May 18 as there is only a 2 day window for hay planting.
