The news media have to out sell each other with sensationalism. They build any news item into the latest crisis.
Years ago people complained with the auto replacing horses and putting blacksmiths & stables out of business. People cried at the decline of the railroad. People used to complain how fast food restaurants were "unamericam". Ray Crock had a very difficult time selling McDonalds in the 1960's & 1970's.
This too shall all come to pass and we will adapt.
Somehow Europeans ship everything around and transport themselves on fuel that is 2-3 times more expensive than ours.
At least we won't run out of energy, it will just cost more. Lets not forget how much coal there is in North America which can be liquified. The nations energy can also be replaced just with sewage & garbage eating salt water algae. There's plenty of room in the southwest to grow the stuff. A couple of hundred large scale nuclear developments can produce hydrogen to either blend with liquid manufactured fuels. Or to burn on it's own as internal combustion or fuel cells. Hydrogen is nasty stuff to store and transport however. It seeps through or absorbs into everything.
