Trying not to puke. Folks like that are in for a rude awakenin' if anything goes wrong.
I'm single and was fortunate enough to make even more than that all by myself for a few years. Yeah, I spoiled myself a little, but I didn't change my basic lifestyle. I counted myself to be very fortunate, and actually was embarassed by what I was making. I increased my charitable giving substantially during that time and still couldn't help but save the rest. Which was a good thing, 'cause that gravy train derailed. But I found I had a cushion to tide me over for havin' saved it instead of spendin' it.
On a similar scale, my boss did the same thing. He was pullin' down a quarter-million a year, but he kept his household on a budget more like he was makin' $100k, and put the rest away. He was expected to keep a home in a tony neighborhood and entertain bigwigs as part of his work, so he was pinchin' pennies to keep to his budget and save. He was ridin' the same train I was, so his frugality served him well, too.
Since I don't know the folks you're referrin' to, I'm not comfortable callin' them fools, but they're certainly holdin' themselves out as foolish if they think they've got anything to complain about. Bad enough that they think the have problems. To actually complain?????
They'd do well to fire up their high-speed internet connection and read about some of the old folks up here in Maine tryin' to take care of their medical bills and stayin' warm in their two-room shanties on their SS checks. Any savings they may have been able to scrape together over the years are long gone. Or how they're gonna get to town for a doctor's appointment or even groceries. What vehicle? I'm sure they'd love to have the problems of the $120k nitwits.
