Fred, I thought of what you were talking about but was trying to keep it simple with a fairly high current rating. If you start talking about zener diodes etc. we will lose some of those who might be helped. I don't know what high power zeners are going for nowadays, but thought you might find a high current silicon diode at Radio Shack more easily. I don't have a current (or even old) Radio Shack catalog so don't know what is currently available. I built a voltage regulator using a Radio Shack chip that worked very well for a small computer that the power supply burned up on. For the heat sink, I used one of those metal octagon boxes that you put in your ceiling to hang light fixtures on. Mounted the pot in one of the holes. Did that because it was what I could find in my junk box. The power requirements for this little computer were not great so didn't have any trouble. Thanks for the positive response. Ivan
