You ought to listen to NPR radio more. They give lots of great stories to compare to.
Like the Chinese workers building a government project who go to work at 7:30AM and get off at midnight - with a half hour break for lunch and another for supper - for really miserable pay.
Or the African guy trying to support his family as a fisherman on Lake Victoria where the water table is dropping and he can barely get his boat through the mud and cattails now.
Or the Indian native in South America who was hired by an oil company to watch a tool shed outpost - for $2/day.
I know - I know - I've seen SO MANY times on this board "well, the USA isn't Africa or China or whatever"...
But my point is, if you take all of the human conditions in the world today as a whole, few Americans have it rough.
And if you take all the human condition that has ever existed in the history of the world - this is as good as it's ever been!
So, no, the wheels aren't coming off. It is just a minor "attitude readjusment" that some folks need to experience.
