My guess would be electrical. Your spark is not hot enough and you are leaving unburnt gas in the engine. This mixes with the oil, thinning it, reducing compression. It dilutes the oil and increases the volume of oil in the crankcase perhaps to the point where it is splashing and foaming, the gasoline lowers the burn point so it causes the smoking. In the meantime your plugs are prolly really wet and your engine is getting a range of power from each cylinder ignition causing the engine to act rough. First change the oil and pay attention to how much comes out...smell for gas in the oil. If it smells gassy, or if there seems to be too much you have oil dillution. Pull the plugs, if they are wet most likely you have an electric problem, carb is possible but electric is more likely. Just change the plugs, they are cheap. AW hell...just change the plugs, wires, rotor, points, and cap. Prolly need it anyway. Then look at your spark, if it is still weak replace the coil. The fact of the matter is that electrical problems are often multiple in nature. If after replacing all that stuff, it cranks and cranks and cranks and just wont kick. Check your pocket and make sure you put the rotor back in. Good Luck Kim

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
