Put your money in a credit union. They are insured by a organization like the FDIC, but is far better funded - thus the backup on your accounts is on far firmer ground. Credit unions are not in the business of making risky realestate loans, either! Basically the members of the credit unions are the owners, not stockholders. So if the CU comes out ahead, all the members benefit. Thus CUs are far more responsible to their depositors. (Don't look at me, am a member of 3 CUs, haven't stepped foot in a bank for years!)
