Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, we were getting a light rain from Gustav. We had just installed some guttering on the hay barn and I went out to see how it was doing.
We hadn't gotten enough fall to the guttering and it wasn't draining. I got the ladder and was tying to adjust the hangers some so the water would flow.
Wet wood + uneven ground + moving around on the ladder = ladder slipping. I didn't fall far, But I fell backwards and of course put my hands down to catch myself. I broke my right wrist.
I've had a couple of nasty spills from my horse (cracked ribs once) and thought I had some understanding of pain. Wrong. I now have personal knowledge of a whole new level of pain.
Being right-handed, its been very inconvenient to say the least. But I did learn a lesson about ladders and will be much more careful in the future.
Good news is the wrist is healing well. It could have been much worse. We are both very thankful that's all that happened.
