on the 38A,open the throttle until the arm on the carb just touches the stop, put the choke lever down[there is a line on the choke shaft to tell you how the plate is located],with the petcocks open, turn the flywheel slowly, let the impulse in the mag do the work for you, it will start easier cranking slowly, turn the flywheel a couple of revolutions, then take the choke off[lever up], then turn flywheel slowly and start the tractor.Don't spin a hand crank as hard as you can, it will start very hard.
