I had somewhat the opposite happen. I placed my bid for the max I wanted to spend on that particular item, and 2 days later I was outbid, so I went looking for a similar item, found it, placed my bid, and again was outbid. I felt the second item was worth a bit more, so I upped my bid, only to realize that due to some glitches in the system, I had mistakenly raised my bid on the first item which I did not want. I WAS able to cancel the second bid on the wrong item, but somehow or another, eBay canceled ALL of my bids on that first item, which was good for me, but it sure the heck was NOT fair to the seller of that first item.
