We farm sixty acres of irrigated pasture in the high plains of the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. The soil is sandy clay with lots of rocks -- potato country!. All of my neighbors use modern rubber tire tractors of one sort or another. I was raised in Northern California with an Oliver HG crawler. Crawlers are more comfortable for me to operate. I get a nose bleed every time I climb up into one of those tall rubber tire machines. I have an opportunity to buy an Oliver OC6 crawler with a pto and three point hitch. Question, why did most farming operations abandon the crawler for the rubber tire tractors? Am I nuts to go with a crawler today for a small place? All opinions welcome and appreciated.
